Environmental Sustainability Policy
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to guide decision-making by the Co-op Board and membership in support of environmental sustainability.
It provides guidelines without being prescriptive or limited to the example actions listed.
Specific policies may be drafted in future to support this overarching policy.
Commitment
Our Co-op recognizes that a healthy environment is essential for our health, well-being, and prosperity—now and for future generations.
We acknowledge society’s responsibility to protect the natural environment and reduce contributions to climate change.
We will strive to manage our property, make decisions, and encourage behaviours and practices among members, suppliers, and contractors that support a healthy environment.
Guiding Principles
Evidence-based: Prioritize actions with the greatest demonstrable benefits.
Time sensitive and long-term: Balance short- and long-term objectives, including the welfare of future generations.
Holistic: Consider life cycle costs and benefits—environmental, social, and economic—including non-monetary factors.
